How to fix an whea uncorrectable error (WUE) Windows 10


Whea uncorrectable error  (Windows Stop Code 0x0000124) is a hardware error. There are several common causes of false errors (we’ll abbreviate them as WUE), most of which are directly related to your system hardware. While not always the cause, voltage issues are a common cause of this error in Windows. The WUE message and stop code 0x0000124 indicate the nature of the error, but a review of the error throw file will provide more information. Your debug file (.DMP) is located in C:/Windows/Minidump and has a timestamp. Unfortunately, we cannot offer solutions to all problems, but the following fix should fix the whea_uncorrectable_error.

  1. Damaged hardware (damaged hard drive, GPU, processor, power supply, faulty RAM, etc.)
  2. Driver Compatibility Issues
  3. Heat and voltage issues (over clocking and voltage sway)
  4. Corrupt Windows system files or registry files

Causes of the whea uncorrectable error

The uncorrectable WHEA error is a stop code that is displayed during blue screen crashes, and it is usually caused by some kind of hardware failure. A failing hard drive, bad memory, a poorly seated CPU, and a variety of other hardware problems can lead to an whea uncorrectable error.

In addition to faulty hardware, this error message can also be the result of driver conflicts and a lack of Windows updates that cause the hardware to work, or not work, unexpectedly. In some cases, overclocking can also cause this error to appear due to the extra effort that overclocking places on the CPU.

Remember the list of the most common system hardware issues that cause whea uncorrectable error.  The next section expands on some of these hardware problems and illustrates some of the possible solutions.

Method #1: Start CHKDSK

  • Try running Windows Check Disk from the command line before making changes to any hardware. CHKDSK is a Windows system tool that checks the file system and fixes runtime problems with certain settings.

  • Type command prompt in the Start menu search bar, then right-click the most suitable one and select Run as administrator. (Alternatively, press Windows + X and then select Command Prompt (Administrator) from the menu.)
  • Then type chkdsk /r and hit enter. The command will scan your system for errors and fix any issues along the way.

Method #2: Check your system hardware

Check your system hardware

  • Whea uncorrectable error  is closely related to your system hardware. Therefore, physically check the system hardware before proceeding with a system reboot and memory test.
  • Make sure the cooling system is fully functional, your RAM is securely seated in its slots, and the CPU is very loose, and so on. If you’re not sure how to change system hardware, check out the video below.

Method #3: Reset the over clocking systemReset the over clocking system

  • If you have over clocked your system to a faster speed, chances are you will experience Whea uncorrectable error. The easiest way to remove this from the list is to reset the system BIOS and remove the over clocking effect.
  • You need to enter the system BIOS or UEFI menu. To do this, shut down your system. Then restart your system by pressing the BIOS/UEFI menu access key (common keys are F1, F2, F10, DEL, and ESC).
  • BIOS and UEFI settings vary by manufacturer, but menu titles are often similar. Looking for over clocking options most of the over clocking options are located in the Advanced, Power, Frequency or Voltage menus.

Method #4: Reset BIOS/UEFI settings

Method #5: Update BIOS/UEFI settings

  • This process also varies greatly depending on the motherboard manufacturer of your system. Some BIOS/UEFI settings can be downloaded and updated automatically using the desktop utility. Other manufacturers require that you download a BIOS update and update the firmware yourself.
  • Not sure which motherboard you have? Download and run CPU-Z. Go to the Motherboard tab and find your motherboard manufacturer and model. This section also provides your BIOS brand and version.
  • Knowing this does an Internet search for “BIOS update [your motherboard manufacturer + model]”. For example, I would search for “micro star ms-1796 BIOS update” for my system. You should find instructions, tutorials and, if you’re lucky, even a video or two.

Method #6: Checking your driver

  • Sometimes new drivers crash your system. It’s getting weirder these days because Windows 10 handles most of the driver updates.
  • However, this doesn’t mean that unreliable drivers can’t interfere with your system. Luckily, Windows 10 lists driver updates on the Windows Update tab (Windows Update can also cause its own errors) so you can quickly figure out where the problem is coming from.
  • Press Windows + I to open the settings window, then select Update & security > View update history. You can find driver updates here.
  • Now enter device manager in the search bar in the start menu and select the most suitable one. Then scroll through the list and look for the error icon. Otherwise, your driver’s condition is most likely not causing the problem.
  • However, you can use a third-party tool to update all the drivers on your system at the same time. Check out this list of free tools that you can use to fix most Windows problems. The first two options, I Obit’s Driver Booster and Snappy Driver Installer, just go for it.

Method #7: Check your RAM with MemTest86

  • Windows has a built-in memory testing tool called Windows Memory Diagnostic. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have a good reputation and routinely ignores problems found with another excellent tool – MemTest86.
  • MemTest86 is a free standalone memory testing tool for x86 machines. You start MemTest86 from a USB stick (or boot disk) and check your system RAM. Checking MemTest86’s RAM now takes a long time; one change can take hours, depending on how much RAM you have installed.
  • To get the full MemTest86 experience, you must complete at least two passes (i.e. two full cycles). However, according to most reports, MemTest86 will expose serious RAM issues after a while.Check your RAM with MemTest86
  • Go to the MemTest86 download page and download the image to create a bootable CD (ISO format). Then you need to save the MemTest86 ISO on the USB stick.
  • Save MemTest86 with the tool of your choice, then shut down your system. Then reboot the system by pressing the boot selection menu key (usually F10, F11, DEL, or ESC) and then selecting the MemTest86 USB flash drive. The memory test will start automatically.
  • If a RAM error is returned, do an internet search for the error code and enter it to find your next course of action.

Method #8: Whea uncorrectable error by windows Memory Diagnosticswindows Memory Diagnostics

  • RAM is often the cause of an OS crash. It is possible to check the functionality of the modules using several utilities.
  • These are MemTest, RamSmash, SuperRam, FurMark. In addition, Windows has a built-in diagnostic mode.
  • It starts like this: Enter “Windows” + “R”, then, in the window that opens, “mdsched.exe”. Next, the OS will ask for a reboot. You need to confirm the action.
  • When the test is over, its results will appear. The detected damaged module will have to be replaced.

Method #9: whea uncorrectable error by reset Windows 10

  • If nothing else works, you can use the Windows 10 restart feature to update your system.
  • A Windows 10 reset will replace the files on your system with a whole new set of files. In theory, any remaining whea uncorrectable error  issues will be removed while most of your important files remain intact.
  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery, then select Start under Reset this computer.
